Trees and Trains Add Up to Sustainable Business

In 2015, Norfolk Southern completed a five-year community partnership to reforest 10,000 acres in the Mississippi Delta, a “Trees and Trains” initiative to mitigate carbon emissions the natural way. Partnering with GreenTrees, a reforestation program, NS invested $5.6 million to plant more than 6 million cottonwood and native hardwood trees on land cleared for farming years ago but that had become marginally productive as cropland.

Celebrating Success – Super 8 Ukiah

The year is 2008. The economic downtown has hit, and the Super 8 in Ukiah, California, is struggling. The challenge was that not as many people were traveling, and the owner, Raakesh Patel needed to get creative to keep his doors open.

Other hotels opened nearby in the time that followed – Marriott’s, Hampton Inn’s, those that were “affordable” without being considered a truly “budget” property. For Raakesh, it all started with research.
