The Arbor Day Foundation has announced today that Friends of Grand Rapids Parks has been awarded the Foundation's 2019 Spirit of Arbor Day Award. This award recognizes an organization or community that fulfills the Foundation's mission of inspiring people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees through programs and activities that have been implemented within the past five years. The award will be presented at a reception in honor of Friends of Grand Rapids Parks on May 20 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Grand Rapids Downtown.

This award recognizes a government entity, community-based organization, or partnership among such groups that has demonstrated exemplary leadership to develop and implement new policies and practices for municipal tree planting and care, natural area stewardship or arboriculture. The award will be presented on May 13 at an award reception for the City of Charlotte at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center.
