When I think about International Day of the Girl, I remember how my college basketball coach asked me to speak in front of a group of Fortune 500 executives. I had never spoken to top execs before, let alone a room full of them! I had my self-doubts, but ultimately, I chose to be bold.
Although STEM employers spend billions of dollars to improve gender equality in their fields, women still face huge obstacles. Many highly-qualified women feel stuck in their careers, and more than half quit their jobs over time, according to Center for Talent Innovation (CTI) research. To address this, CTI’s new study, “Wonder Women in STEM and the Companies that Champion Them,” uses a data-driven approach to identify strategies linked to increased retention and career advancement for women, and shares insights from women who have achieved success in STEM careers. Each year non-profit organization Equileap ranks global companies for their progress towards gender equality. In Equileap’s 2018 index, Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, secured the 15th rank overall and 1st in the “Industrial Sector”.
Look at almost any conventional media outlet, and you’ll see women underrepresented as sources. Focus just on business and finance stories, and they’re even less visible, an omission of perspective that Bloomberg’s news organization is not willing to tolerate. And so we have rolled out a global plan to boost the number of women and other diverse sources that we quote in stories, invite on Bloomberg TV and Bloomberg radio and feature in our events’ panels.
