Leveraging Partnerships for Water Security: Reducing Non-revenue Water in Uganda

Urban areas in many parts of Africa face the challenges of competition for water resources, inadequate infrastructure, droughts and water shortages, and non-revenue water loss—water that has been produced and is "lost" before it reaches the customer. In this post, Tetra Tech’s Leif Kindberg and Dr. Scott McCormick discuss how reducing the amount of water lost before it reaches the customer is integral to water security and the resiliency of urban water and sanitation services. Powering a Greener Future

Nestlé Waters Plant in Sacramento Now Powered Entirely by Clean Energy

Nestlé Waters North America, in partnership with SMUD, today announced agreements that will allow its facility in Sacramento, California to be powered by 100% renewable energy. The agreement is a major step towards parent company Nestlé’s global goal to transition to 100% renewable electricity use in its operations.

The clean, renewable electricity generated by SMUD will be used by Nestlé Waters North America to produce sustainably-sourced, healthy beverage options for Californians, including the company’s Arrowhead® Brand Mountain Spring Water and Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water. By transitioning its electrical power needs to renewable sources, the carbon footprint of the Nestlé Waters factory will be reduced by more than 21,279 metric tons of carbon dioxide over the next three years.

Northwest Ohio Wind Farm to Power General Motors’ Ohio, Indiana Plants

Officials from General Motors and Starwood Energy Group joined Ohio lawmakers, county officials and local landowners today at a press conference to unveil the Northwest Ohio Wind Farm, a 100-megawatt wind project under construction in Paulding County, Ohio. Power purchased from the wind farm will help offset the power used at General Motors’ Ohio and Indiana manufacturing facilities with clean, renewable energy.

Eco-design, Energy Efficiency, CSR Practices, and Good Governance Reported at Bloomberg

Efficiency and environmental measures have cut carbon dioxide emissions by 834,209 tons in nine years reports Bloomberg, the Manhattan-based financial, software, data and media company. As a result, operating costs have been reduced by an impressive $103m (£74m, €84m). The emissions statistics are among the ethical achievements listed in Bloomberg’s 2017 impact report.
