Walmart and Sam’s Club’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” Campaign Aims to Achieve Big Impact Toward Hunger Relief

In communities across the U.S., one in eight Americans, or nearly 40 million people, struggle with hunger, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. To raise awareness and combat the issue, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Feeding America® and member food banks are kicking off their sixth annual nationwide “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” (FHSC) campaign, which will run from April 22 to May 20.

AmpleHarvest.org Announces New Board President

Today, AmpleHarvest.org, the nation’s only virtual solution to food waste and hunger, has announced the appointment of John Powers, Chief Corporate Development Officer at Deloitte, as their new Board President.

"We are thrilled that John’s taking the reins to help us towards further reducing hunger and food waste in America," said AmpleHarvest.org Executive Director, Gary Oppenheimer. “As a gardener himself, he sees the opportunity, presented by the nation’s 42 million gardeners, to donate their excess harvest to nearly 8,500 AmpleHarvest.org registered food pantries. The solution impacts hunger, food waste and climate change on a vast scale.”

Which Wich’s philanthropic foundation, Project PB&J, was created five years ago with a vision of making the world a better place one PB&J sandwich at a time. This year, with National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day on Tuesday, April 2, Which Wich is teaming up with Hormel Foods and its SKIPPY® peanut butter brand to host a month-long virtual spreading party throughout April to benefit hunger relief efforts in local communities. Both companies are encouraging everyone to join the campaign by making PB&J sandwiches that can be donated to local hunger relief organizations. For every sandwich that is made and donated, Which Wich and Hormel Foods and its SKIPPY® brand, will donate a dollar up to $20,000 to hunger relief efforts nationally.
