Nat Geo WILD Launches ‘WILD TO INSPIRE’ Short Film Contest Encouraging Young Filmmakers to Share Their Love of Nature

Nat Geo WILD uses the power of storytelling to inspire a love of wildlife and nature in its audiences, and through a new short film contest, the network is giving young filmmakers across the U.S. the chance to do the same.

The 4th annual WILD TO INSPIRE competition asks contestants to create one-minute videos that share personal wildlife stories, from travels around the globe to the habitats and ecosystems thriving in their own backyards. Enter the contest by uploading these videos to Instagram with the hashtag #WildToInspireContest until submissions close on February 15.

Thanks to Avnet’s corporate partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) of Arizona, more than 25,000 students are able to have a hands-on tech industry experience. Sparking interest in the technology industry and nurturing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education is important to Avnet, and sponsoring two shops at JA BizTown provides students with critical exposure to important STEM career opportunities.

Orlando Ashford Named Chair of The Executive Leadership Council

Orlando D. Ashford, president of Holland America Line in Seattle, Wash., has been elected chair of The Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the pre-eminent national organization composed of current and former black CEOs, senior executives, entrepreneurs, global thought leaders and board members of Fortune 1000 and equivalent companies. The focus of the organization is the development of a pipeline of global black executives for C-suites, corporate boards and global enterprises to leverage the full power of diversity and inclusion. Ashford’s term as chair extends through Dec. 31, 2018.

Nearly 200,000 teenagers across the country end up in hospital emergency rooms as a direct result of injury or accidents due to underage drinking, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Excessive drinking is responsible for more than 4,300 deaths among underage youth each year, they report.

Holland America Line launched three new commuter “ships” Monday, Jan. 9, that will run on the Sound Transit Light Rail System in Seattle. The trains, which are wrapped to resemble Holland America Line’s newest ship, ms Koningsdam, will cruise the tracks through April 2017, when the summer cruise season to Alaska begins from the Port of Seattle.
