Today’s computers all use a basic architecture pioneered more than 60 years ago. A processor computes using data in memory. That memory is quick to access and very close to the processor. However, it’s also limited in size. So when the processor is ready for more data, it fetches it from a larger, slower storage system, and swaps the new data into memory to continue calculating.

SC Johnson Supports World’s Largest Tropical Reforestation Project

SC Johnson today announced that the funds raised from its 2017 acre-for-acre match challenge will be used to kick off the world’s largest tropical reforestation project in the Brazilian Amazon. Through a partnership with Conservation International (CI) earlier this year to support the virtual reality film Under the Canopy, SC Johnson enlisted the public to help protect 10,000 acres of the Amazon rainforest through its acre-for-acre match campaign.

Dell Inc. Expects to Donate Over $14 Million Globally in STEM Education for Underserved Children This Year

As a part of ongoing efforts to invest in a more diverse technology workforce, Dell Inc. expects to contribute $14 million in grants and technology donations to support future generations of STEM workers, in current fiscal year which ends Feb. 3, 2018. Current donations made across Dell’s 71 youth learning partners globally are expected to bring technology education to more than 1.5 million underserved youth. With the expected contributions, a total of 4 million children will be impacted through Dell’s strategic giving programs, since 2014.

This week, Cone headed to the MGM National Harbor in Maryland to participate in this year's COMMIT!Forum – a two day conference focused on the role of the corporate responsibility practitioner as companies aim to make their voices heard. The theme of the conference was "Brands Taking Stands" – certainly apropos given today's business and political environment. Food Waste Documentary Highlights Solutions

Because of innovative work we are doing at our Murfreesboro, Tennessee, plant, General Mills was invited to be included in “WASTED! The Story of Food Waste,” a documentary making its debut in theaters and online today.

Since August 2015, our Murfreesboro plant has been processing leftover whey from Yoplait Greek lines to produce 10 percent (1.6 megawatts) of the plant’s electrical needs.

In addition, excess heat from its biogas generator has reduced the plant’s natural gas needs by 10 percent.

While jobs in the tech sector are plentiful, regions of the U.S. are especially friendly to tech employees—and most of the nation’s developers, engineers, designers, database administrators find work in just a handful of hubs around the country. NerdWallet, the independent financial literacy website, named the Washington, D.C. metro area 7th on its list of “Best Places for Tech Jobs” and Booz Allen Hamilton is cited as a top tech employer.

LA Kings Raise More Than $175,000 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles

AEG’s LA Kings raised more than $175,000 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) at the team’s annual Golf Tournament at Pacific Palms Resort on October 2.

The golf tournament, which serves as a fundraiser for CHLA, was attended by all of the current LA Kings players, numerous alumni and the team’s hockey operations executives who participated in the 18-hole tournament along with more than 140 donors.

LA Galaxy and Southern New Hampshire University Team up to Unveil New Mini-Pitch in Watts, Los Angeles

AEG’s LA Galaxy Foundation, in partnership with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), unveiled a brand-new community soccer field in Watts, Los Angeles at 109th Street Recreation Center on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The new turf mini-pitch opened in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks, and LAPD Southeast Division to provide a safe place for the local Watts community to play soccer.
