(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Madison, WI - October 3, 2011 - Leonardo Academy, an accredited developer of American national standards, is pleased to announce the formation of a new subcommittee to develop detailed product category rules for calculating and comparing the environmental impacts of building materials and systems.
This new subcommittee is part of the committee developing the LEO-SCS-002 standard for Type III Life-Cycle Impact Profile Declarations for Materials, Products, Services and Systems. This standard is providing a framework for lifecycle impact assessment that augments the international ISO-14044 LCA standard to support environmental declarations, ratings and claims. It is being developed under the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) process, as facilitated by the Leonardo Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainability and environmental stewardship. The ANSI process stresses multi-stakeholder participation and transparency. The product category rules (PCRs) and comparative product category rules (C-PCRs) being developed will address building materials and systems, covering the details of how to calculate the environmental impacts of products in these categories under the LEO-SCS-002 standard. Anyone interested in applying to participate on this subcommittee should fill out and submit a subcommittee application form. The subcommittee application form can be downloaded from the Leonardo Academy web site at: http://www.leonardoacademy.org/services/standards/life-cycle/participate.html.
