IBM & the UN SDGs
Established in 2015, the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 interconnected and equally valued initiatives aimed to build a sustainable and inclusive world by 2030. IBM’s commitment to global service and sustainability began prior to the creation of the SDGs. In 1965, IBM CEO Thomas J. Watson Jr. wrote: “We accept our responsibilities as a corporate citizen in community, national and world affairs; we serve our interests best when we serve the public interest... We want to be at the forefront of those companies which are working to make our world a better place.” The report details how IBM is uniquely positioned to contribute to the 17 SDGs across five key areas: products, services, and solutions; workplace diversity and inclusion; environmental programs; supply chain; and corporate citizenship initiatives. Through this report, IBM hopes to continue to promote the role of business in supporting global sustainable development.
