Celebrating Literacy During Read Across America on Dr. Seuss’ Birthday in Las Vegas & Bethlehem

During the annual literary celebration of the National Education Association’s Read Across America on March 2, many children across the nation celebrate reading on the same day as the beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss’ birthday. In honor of the literary holiday, Las Vegas Sands Team Members in Las Vegas and Bethlehem, PA, took the time to read to students at local elementary schools.

Today is Talk With Our Kids About Money Day!

Teachers, parents and guardians from the Territories (Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon) are joining their counterparts in all provinces to talk about money and help young people get a head start in their financial education. They are participating in Talk With Our Kids About Money Day (TWOKAM Day). The educational program, created by the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) and supported by Scotiabank, is celebrating its sixth anniversary.

Sands Cares Makes a $50,000 Donation to ‘Mondays Dark’

Sands Cares, the global corporate giving program of Las Vegas Sands Corp., The Venetian and The Palazzo, donated $50,000, $25,000 per year over the next two years, to help fund the operating costs of local philanthropic organization, Mondays Dark. Twice a month, Mondays Dark gathers stars from Hollywood and the Las Vegas Strip, musical acts, comedians, athletes, and the occasional celebrity chef, for 90 minutes of conversation and entertainment. Its mission is to raise $10,000 per performance for a rotating roster of Las Vegas charities.

National Park Foundation Boosts Volunteer Outreach & Programs Across National Parks Community

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the National Park Foundation and American Express are announcing seven grants supporting volunteer capacity-building efforts at national parks across the country. Designed to support the growth of park volunteer programs, projects funded by the grants include expansion of volunteer housing space, development of recruitment handbooks, and outreach to neighboring communities.

Astellas Volunteers Spread Cheer to Patients Battling Cancer

Being away from families and friends during the holidays can be difficult. For a person battling cancer and their loved ones – this can be especially challenging. To help brighten the day of these patients and their families, Astellas employees wrote inspirational messages on note cards and decorated them. These note cards were put into 2,000 care packages assembled by Astellas volunteers to give to patients and caregivers staying at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodges and Ronald McDonald Houses. The volunteer event was part of Astellas’ inaugural Patient and Caregiver Week – a series of events to educate employees on the patient’s journey and how Astellas can do more to help them.
