UPS Names Tamara Barker New Chief Sustainability Officer

UPS (NYSE: UPS) announced today that Tamara Barker has been named the company’s new Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and Vice President of Environmental Affairs, effective immediately. Barker will succeed Rhonda Clark, a 26-year UPS veteran, who has been named Vice President of Corporate Plant Engineering for UPS.

CITGO Lemont Refinery Promotes STEM Education in Illinois with Project Infinite Green

CITGO Petroleum Corporation employees from the Lemont Refinery served as mentors teaching interactive workshops on diverse energy sources and sustainability to local middle and high school students as part of Project Infinite Green. This innovative, locally based afterschool program offered middle- and high-school students the opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) from industry experts both inside and out of the classroom.

#NationalVolunteerWeek: Cox Conserves Heroes Celebrates Environmental Volunteers

It’s National Volunteer Week. Through the Cox Conserves Heroes program, we are honored to have recognized more than 150 environmental volunteers. Building trails, removing litter from rivers, generating environmental awareness, protecting aquifers, saving burrowing owls, leading interactive tours at farms, creating community gardens, removing invasive species and saving Hemlock trees are just a few of the projects led by Cox Conserves Heroes. And, it’s not their job. It’s their passion and commitment to the environment that spur this volunteerism and inspires others to act.

Arbor Day Foundation and BJ’s Charitable Foundation to Plant a Half Million Trees by End of Spring

The Arbor Day Foundation is planting a half million trees in our nation’s forests by the end of spring of 2016 thanks to the continued support of BJ’s Wholesale Club and BJ’s Charitable Foundation. In 2013, BJ’s committed one million dollars to plant more than one million trees in forests of need and communities devastated by natural disasters by the year 2020.

Republic Celebrates Earth Day in St. Louis by Expanding Compressed Natural Gas-Powered Fleet

Republic Services announced today the addition of four Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) solid waste collection trucks to its fleet serving customers throughout metropolitan St. Louis. The CNG trucks replace older diesel-powered trucks, and bring the total number of natural gas vehicles operated by Republic in metropolitan St. Louis to 107.

2015 was a pivotal year for global sustainability. In September, the leaders of 193 United Nations (UN) Member States adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs, comprised of a set of 169 targets, are the heir to Millennium Development Goals and represent a shared vision for what needs to be achieved by 2030 to secure a sustainable future. A few months after the SDGs were announced, world leaders gathered in Paris and agreed in principle to a new global framework to address climate change.
