After several tornadoes hit Northwest Arkansas in late May, leaders at our Glad plant in Rogers were forced to spring into action to keep our people safe and then work to restore operations after the facility was hit directly by the storm.
Since it launched in 2012, #GivingTuesday has grown to become a recognized day of giving back in the U.S. and around the world. Last year, charities raised $180 million —an increase of 44% over the previous year. Now, what started out as a day focused on nonprofits has garnered the attention of companies as well. This year we saw companies create fun and unique ways to invite consumers to purchase while giving back on one of the biggest giving days of the year. Here are a few campaigns that caught our eye:
Working in communities across the country, the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund is implementing programs and training leaders to help expand access to financial services and education for unbanked and underbanked individuals.
In September of 2016, Booz Allen launched the “Leadership in Focus” series to develop critical skills and behaviors for leaders at all levels of the firm. The first course in the series, “Be Inclusive,” trains leaders about the behaviors required to create an inclusive work environment. At the heart of this initiative are diversity pioneers like David Sylvester, director of learning and development at Booz Allen. Sylvester recently accepted the Gold-Level Learning in Practice Award by Chief Learning Officer (CLO) magazine on behalf of the firm in recognition of its employee development program.
Republic Services of Richmond and Pacheco, California were recognized at the 7th Annual East Bay Philanthropy Awards. Presented by the Sanford Institute for Philanthropy and Wells Fargo honoring the people, businesses, and service organizations that give back to the East Bay community. It is the most inspiring day for the East Bay Leadership Council, where they are thrilled to help recognize such an exceptional class of honorees. Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) and AT&T are working together to help raise the high school graduation rate and support successful career pathways by expanding academic support and providing mentoring opportunities for underserved students. JAG has received a $3.5 million contribution from AT&T to allow the national non-profit to add new schools and/or expand existing programs through its 34 JAG State Affiliates with proven success records of keeping kids in school.
